The Bucks County SPCA has rescued 35 cats, one kitten, and three large-breed dogs from what officials described as "squalid conditions" in a Hulmeville Borough home.
The animals were found after a tip from a concerned resident, and all showed signs of chronic neglect, poor sanitation, and untreated medical conditions. The dogs were confined to filthy crates and covered in fleas, while the cats suffered from respiratory infections, skin issues, and flea infestations, according to the Bucks County SPCA.
According to SPCA Executive Director Linda Reider, the animals were removed from the care of an individual who appeared to be running an unlicensed rescue operation.
Each animal has been evaluated by veterinary staff, with the lone kitten quickly placed in a foster home. Reider emphasized the organization’s commitment to helping the animals recover and finding them proper homes.
The SPCA is preparing to file multiple charges of animal cruelty and neglect against the owner. In the meantime, the organization is encouraging the public to consider adopting animals currently available at their shelters to help make room for the new rescues.
