Rushlyn Farm in Bedminster honored as a Pennsylvania Century Farm

A Bedminster Township farm with deep roots in Bucks County history has officially been recognized as a Pennsylvania Century Farm.

Rushlyn Farm, founded in 1925 by J. Paul and Barbara Rush, was honored this month by state Rep. Shelby Labs, R-143, during a celebration that drew more than 200 guests — including about 80 descendants of the founding family, according to the Bucks County Herald.

The Century Farm designation is awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to farms owned and operated by the same family for at least 100 consecutive years. Labs praised the Rush family for their “dedicated care and stewardship,” saying the farm exemplifies the region’s commitment to preserving its rural heritage.

Originally spanning 52 acres across Bedminster and Plumstead townships, Rushlyn Farm once supported orchards, dairy cows, pigs, chickens and horses.

In response to increasing development in the 1990s, the Rush family placed the Plumstead portion of the land in a preservation program to protect it as open space, per the report. Today, Mark Rush continues the tradition by farming hay on the remaining 11 acres.
