As Pennridge School District officials gear up for the upcoming school year, they are celebrating the newest College Board Advanced Placement (AP) score report.
According to the report, 93% of Pennridge AP students in the 2024-2025 school year scored a 3 or higher, with 573 students taking 1,050 AP tests, a district record. A score of 3 or higher on an AP exam is recognized by many colleges and universities as credit-bearing, helping to alleviate the financial strain of rising tuition costs, said a Pennridge district press release.
“Our students continue to rise to the challenge of Advanced Placement college coursework while still in high school, and these results are a testament to their determination and drive,” said Superintendent Angelo Berrios. “I am equally proud of our outstanding teachers, whose rich instruction and commitment to academic excellence prepare students not only to meet these challenges but to thrive. In a competitive global economy, this level of achievement positions Pennridge students to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best. I could not be prouder of what our students and staff have accomplished.”
Pennridge students outperform the state and global AP score averages in all major subject areas, shows the report. Many 2024-2025 graduates who earned 3s or higher on their tests took at least a dozen AP tests in high school and now have up to 30% of their undergraduate degree courses complete before they even walk on campus. These students consistently told administrators that they chose colleges that took AP scores to save on tuition costs and hasten their undergraduate studies.
This past year, Pennridge expanded its AP course offerings to a record 28 courses. One new course was AP Human Geography, taken by 83 students, 53% of whom never took an AP course before and 88% of whom earned college credit with a score of 3 or higher. Administrators say that the new courses’s success will lead to additional AP courses and more availability to all students, said the release.
