In her efforts to connect unclaimed funds with those whom they belong to, Bucks County Controller Pamela Van Blunk recently returned more than $60,000 to Horizon House, a nonprofit human services organization.
The $60,133 payment was hand-delivered to Horizon House Controller Deborah Bordley after Van Blunk’s office confirmed the original check was unclaimed and had not been reissued recently.
Van Blunk worked with Bordley and Jeffrey Wilush, President and CEO of Horizon House, to facilitate the return of the funds.
Horizon House provides intellectual and developmental services in Bucks County, including community residential living, supported living and employment services. The organization also offers behavioral health, homeless and intellectual and developmental services in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Lehigh counties and in the state of Delaware.
“It’s an honor to ensure taxpayer dollars are accounted for and returned to where they belong,” Van Blunk said. “Returning these funds to Horizon House, a nonprofit doing vital work for individuals with mental health and intellectual disabilities, is a great example of that mission in action.”
Wilush thanked the Controller’s Office for its prompt action.
“Being our work benefits the underserved in our communities; these funds will go a long way in providing the essential programming our participants have come to rely on,” he said.
Van Blunk started the unclaimed funds program in Bucks County a few years ago.
Since its inception, the program has returned nearly $1 million to rightful owners, with more than $1.5 million still waiting to be claimed.
Unclaimed funds in Bucks County typically belong to individuals and organizations that have done business with or received services from the county or its courts, the controller’s office said.
The list of unclaimed funds is updated monthly, and Van Blunk encourages the public to check the list regularly.

Instructions for claiming funds are also available on the unclaimed funds program site.
Claimants can receive their funds directly from the controller’s office via mail, with no service charges or fees, typically within four to six weeks of application verification.
