NOVA, Bucks County’s comprehensive crime victim services agency, has completed a revitalization of its Victims Commemorative Arbor at Core Creek Park in Langhorne, thanks to a $2,500 beautification grant from Bucks Beautiful.

The Arbor, a key feature of NOVA’s Remembrance Garden, was established in 1998 by families of homicide victims in partnership with the Bucks County Commissioners, according to a news release. For decades, it has served as a sacred and peaceful space where survivors, loved ones, and community members can grieve, reflect, and honor those lost to violence.

The recent restoration included the removal of invasive species, soil remediation, and the installation of native, low-maintenance, deer-resistant shrubs and ornamental grasses. New topsoil and mulch were added throughout the garden, and a cordless electric watering system was installed to support long-term sustainability.

The commemorative arbor at the NOVA Remembrance Garden is the site of NOVA’s annual Candlelight Tribute for Victims of Crime, held each May. The tribute brings together survivors, advocates, and community members for an evening of remembrance that includes music, storytelling, and interactive art. The Arbor now features:

  • 25 newly planted native shrubs and grasses
  • Refreshed soil and mulch to enhance plant health and aesthetics
  • A sustainable watering system to support year-round care
  • A renewed commitment to monthly landscape maintenance

“We are incredibly grateful to Bucks Beautiful for their generous support of this meaningful restoration,” said NOVA Senior Director of Operations and Community Engagement Angela McGettigan in the release. “The Arbor has long been a space where community members can come to grieve, reflect, and heal. Thanks to this grant, we’ve been able to restore the garden’s beauty and purpose, ensuring it remains a sanctuary for those affected by violence.”

In addition to everyday use, the Arbor serves as the annual site for NOVA’s Candlelight Tribute for Victims of Crime, held each May. The event brings together survivors, advocates, and supporters for an evening of music, storytelling, and reflection. Memorials at the site honor victims of homicide, the events of September 11, and fallen law enforcement officers.

Since its creation, the Remembrance Garden has remained a powerful symbol of resilience, hope, and community healing in the face of loss.
