A Doylestown Borough woman is facing attempted murder charges after police said she brutally attacked a victim with a cleaver-style knife during a violent altercation Saturday evening in the borough.

Central Bucks Regional Police said in a news release Monday that officers were dispatched to the intersection of South Main and State streets at 8:52 p.m. Saturday for an abandoned 911 call.

A second call shortly followed, requesting a welfare check for a female at the same location, police said.

When officers arrived, they encountered Robin McClain McNamara, 51, outside the building, her clothing soaked in blood, according to the affidavit.

Police said McNamara admitted the blood came from the victim, telling officers she believed she had broken the victim’s nose.

Inside the apartment, police found the victim covered in blood, suffering from a deep laceration to the back of the head that reached the skull, along with multiple cuts to his shoulders and forearm, and extensive bruising across his back, authorities allege.

The victim told police McNamara had attacked them with a cleaver-type knife, which was recovered at the scene, police said.

The victim was transported to a nearby trauma center for treatment, and their current condition has not been released.

McNamara was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with felony attempted murder, felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, misdemeanor possession of an instrument of crime, and summary harassment, according to court records.

Police say no further information is available at this time, as the investigation remains active. There is no arraignment or bail information as of Monday morning, according to the criminal docket.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.

Editor's Note: The story has been amended to reflect the fact that the victim was male.
