Doylestown Borough is undergoing significant transformations in its municipal infrastructure, highlighted by the demolition of the old borough hall and ongoing improvements at the new administrative and police building.
The razing of the former borough hall at 57 W. Court Street is nearing completion to make way for a planned boutique hotel, according to Bucks County Herald. The property also includes a dog park, to be owned and maintained by the borough, on a roughly one-acre parcel at the site’s southern end.
This redevelopment is part of a broader shift along the North Broad Street corridor, which has seen notable changes recently.
Adjacent to the hotel site, a townhouse and senior housing development is underway in neighboring Doylestown Township, per the report. The townhouse entrance will be accessed via a portion of the former Tilley Fire Equipment site, located within borough limits but serving a township-based project.
The development includes 18 market-rate townhouses and 60 age-restricted apartments supported by tax credits and aimed at seniors and veterans. Borough officials have acknowledged the complex impact this project will have on residents and traffic in the area, which has already been addressed with infrastructure improvements such as a new traffic light, according to the Herald.
Meanwhile, the borough is completing a $380,000 solar energy installation on the roof of its new administrative building and part of the police station, according to the Herald.
The initiative, approved last year, aims to reduce energy costs by approximately 34%, with an expected break-even point within 10 years due to federal credits, utility rebates, and energy savings, per the report.
Borough Manager John Davis described the solar project as a “no-brainer” in the report, and a model for community sustainability, emphasizing the borough’s commitment to environmental stewardship and fiscal responsibility.
The new facility itself is a repurposed former PennDOT building, symbolizing the borough’s efforts to modernize municipal operations while embracing energy efficiency.
Together, these projects represent a pivotal period of growth and renewal for Doylestown Borough, balancing historic redevelopment with sustainable modernization.
