H&K Materials appeared before the Hilltown Board of Supervisors on June 23 to discuss its routine requests for extended operating hours at the quarry and asphalt plant on Skunk Hollow Road.
The firm, operating in partnership with Naceville Materials, has sought approval for working outside the township’s usual hours on a nearly monthly basis for about 15 years, according to Bucks County Herald.
This system replaced an earlier arrangement that required two weeks’ notice, which proved impractical given the unpredictable timing of customer demands.
Representatives explained that extended hours are often necessary to meet the needs of major clients like the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, PennDOT, and large retail chains, whose construction projects sometimes require work beyond standard operating times, per the report.
While township officials expressed concern about water usage related to dust control and its potential impact on groundwater, H&K assured that water use is minimized and does not affect local aquifers. Currently, neighbors are not notified in advance of extended hours, though the company did not dismiss the idea of future notifications, according to the article.
The supervisors ultimately approved the latest request to operate beyond normal hours.
The quarry and asphalt plant, operating since 1973 under the Naceville Materials partnership, continue to supply construction materials across Bucks and Montgomery counties.
