Two Bucks County teens from Quakertown Community High School and Central Bucks West were among the local Girl Scouts recognized with the prestigious Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouts, during a recent ceremony held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
The award celebrates leadership, community service, and long-term impact through what are known as “Take Action” projects, according to a report on the Bucks County Herald.
Mary Barbour, a 2023 graduate of Quakertown Community High School, revitalized her school's courtyard by launching a garden club, installing a greenhouse, planting fresh greenery, hosting plant sales, and even growing food for culinary classes.
Annika Grasso, a graduate of Central Bucks West, focused her Gold Award project on ALS awareness by helping organize an annual event that educates the public about the progressive neurological disease.
They were part of a group of 11 Bucks County Girl Scouts honored among 56 total award recipients from the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania's nine-county region.
