Love is in the air for Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick and his Fox News Channel reporter girlfriend.
Fitzpatrick, a five-term Republican representing the First Congressional District, has proposed to Jacqui Heinrich, a White House reporter for the cable news channel.
The engagement was first reported by People Magazine on Tuesday.
Heinrich confirmed the news on Facebook, sharing the article and posting, “Fact check: true.” She late posted photos of the engagement and said, “Happiest day of my life.”
According to the People article, Fitzpatrick, 51, asked Heinrich, 36, to marry him on June 29 in a lavender field in Provence, France.
The proposal took place just before Fitzpatrick, a Levittown native, had to fly back to Washington D.C. to vote against the “Big Beautiful Bill,” a fiscal and tax bill backed by then-President Donald Trump that was signed into law last Friday.
The inspiration for the location reportedly came from Heinrich, who told the Boston Globe last summer she “always dreamed of eating my way through the French Riviera and Provence, with sun-drenched days at the lavender fields.”
Fitzpatrick booked a summer trip to France as a gift for Heinrich, according to the article.
The journalist said she was concerned that the trip would be cut short due to the vote, the magazine reported.
“He was like, ‘We are going. We’re going to the lavender fields. All I want is to see the lavender fields at sunrise,’” Heinrich told People of her fiancé. “All the time I’ve known this man, he has never been desperate to see a field of flowers at dawn. So I had a feeling that [a proposal] was the goal.”
What was planned as a 10-day trip was reduced to just a few days.
After arriving in Nice, France, the couple drove two hours in the dark to catch the sunrise in a French town.
Fitzpatrick reportedly stopped at a lavender field on the route and suggested Heinrich stroll while he took photos.
Heinrich told People that as she admired the view, a photographer and drone appeared, and Fitzpatrick presented a ring to her.
Heinrich, who has been dating Fitzpatrick since the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors, accepted his proposal.
“I love his brain,” Heinrich said in the article. “I love the way he approaches problem-solving and solving complex issues.”
Heinrich has worked at Fox News Channel since 2018. She is a New England native and previously worked as a reporter at a local news station in Boston.
