SuperKIDS of Montgomery County is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to providing resources for the educational and special needs of abused, neglected, or abandoned children in Montgomery County.

The nonprofit grew out of the belief that all children deserve the same opportunities to develop the skills and abilities essential for success.

SuperKIDS offers children of all ages opportunities and experiences that build self-esteem, encourage talents and inspire lifelong ambitions.

Michele Kristofco, a board member with SuperKIDS told Access Network that while public funding traditionally supports the basic needs for food, shelter and clothing for these children, it doesn’t provide funding for activities, services and other important opportunities essential for their success in life.

“Each caseworker identifies the needs and interests of each individual child,” she explained.

SuperKIDS, she said, helps fund tutoring, college and technical school expenses as well as art, music, dances lessons, sports programs and summer camp.

She added that they even help pay for field trips, prom pictures and senior pictures – things every kid should have.

On her favorite part of volunteering with the nonprofit, she said, I have been with it for so long that I have been able to see the impact on each child over time.”

Since its inception in 1996, the nonprofit has distributed over $1.7 million to over 5,000 children in need in Montgomery County.

To fulfill their mission, SuperKIDS relies on fundraisers and partnerships. She said the fundraising can be challenging because there are so many competing organizations.

“Less money means the less we can do for these children.”

Their 29th Annual SuperKIDS Annual Golf Outing will be held on July 14 at Sandy Run Country Club in Oreland. The fundraiser starts at 10:30 a.m.

Kristofco added that they also are always looking for volunteers to help out.
