Last week, members of the Plumstead Township Police Department’s Explorer Post 5708 took part in one of their most anticipated yearly events — the annual Range Day.
Held as a hands-on learning experience, Range Day gives Explorers the opportunity to safely practice the firearm handling skills they've been developing throughout the year.
The event was more than just target practice — it was a showcase of the discipline, responsibility, and respect for law enforcement protocols that define this unique youth program. The Post extended its sincere thanks to the volunteers who made the event both safe and successful, ensuring participants had an educational and memorable experience.
A Legacy of Service and Leadership
Explorer Post 5708 was established on November 3, 2013, with a mission to help young adults from Central Bucks communities explore law enforcement careers through real-world experiences. Open to individuals ages 14 to 21, the program offers a structured and immersive introduction to the world of policing — from patrol simulations and leadership training to community outreach and field exercises like Range Day.
The program proudly honors the legacy of Officer Joseph E. Hanusey III, a beloved officer who lost his life in the line of duty on May 18, 2002.
Hanusey’s commitment to community and youth outreach lives on in the core values embraced by the Post: Respect. Integrity. Honor. Discipline. Loyalty. Courage.
Explorer Post 5708 mirrors a real police department with a rank-and-file structure, uniforms, and regularly scheduled meetings. The group gathers every other Tuesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Plumstead Township Building and participates in numerous community service projects and fundraising events throughout the year.
