A Warrington Township woman is accused of assaulting a police officer while being taken into custody for causing a disturbance at Big Heads on West Street Road last month.

Santos L. Avlarenga-Pocasangre, 36, of the 1100 block of Vincent Road, was charged June 18 by Warminster Township Police with felony aggravated assault with bodily injury to a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor charges of DUI and simple assault, and lesser charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness stemming from an incident at the 1499 W. Street Road bar at 12:39 a.m.

Police said officers were called to the bar for a report of a disorderly person causing a disturbance.

Upon arrival, police allege Alvarenga-Pocasangre was in the parking lot of Warminster Square Shopping Center, sitting on the ground and rambling in Spanish.

A strong odor of alcohol was coming from her, and she allegedly was unable to stand up without losing her balance. She was told to stay seated due to her level of intoxication, police said, but she continued to yell loudly in Spanish.

A bartender at Big Heads told police that the defendant came into the bar alone at 11 p.m., where she started to argue with customers and curse at them, police allege in the affidavit. She then allegedly began to flip off other customers at the bar.

Alvarenga-Pocasangre was asked to leave, to which she exited the bar and got into a white Nissan Rogue and attempted to drive away, police said. She allegedly reversed her car in the parking lot, nearly missing the building by popping up on the curb. Two employees were able to get the defendant out of the driver seat, police said.

Alvarenga-Pocasangre, police said, became aggressive and pushed a patron outside. Due to her level of intoxication, police said in the complaint that they were unable to do field sobriety tests.

She refused a portable breath test sample, and then she was handcuffed and placed in the rear seat of a patrol car, police said. While in the rear of the car, Alvarenga-Pocasangre screamed profanity in Spanish and kicked the front partition of the patrol car, police said.

While taking the defendant to police headquarters, she continued to scream and kick the inside of the car, police said. Upon arrival at the station, Alvarenga-Pocasangre refused her Miranda Rights, translated into Spanish, and continued to scream profanity, police said.

A female officer from Northampton Township Police responded to headquarters to conduct a search of Alvarenga-Pocasangre. While performing a search inside a cell room, Alvarenga-Pocasangre allegedly lifted her right leg and donkey-kicked the officer in her right leg.

Alvarenga-Pocasangre posted 10% of $75,000 cash bail after arraignment.

A preliminary hearing is set for July 28 at 1:30 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Christopher E. O'Neill.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
