The Telford Borough Council Monday, Jan. 20 approved a conditional use application for a new Alderfer Glass Company building in the borough.
The new facility will be housed in the vacant building at 270 N. 3rd Street and will be used for auto glass calibration services and product storage. It constitutes an extension of Alderfer’s existing business on Telford Pike, said the company.
Founded in 1961, Alderfer Glass serves the retail, auto, residential and commercial aspects of the glass industry. The company currently has locations in Telford, Lansdale, Quakertown, Limerick and the Lehigh Valley.
Borough manager resignation
Council accepted the resignation of borough manager Kyle Detwiler, who recently accepted a position as borough manager in Ambler. Detwiler first joined the Telford administration in May 2023.
After accepting Detwiler’s resignation, council appointed Caitlin Pederson to the position of Interim Borough Secretary and Interim Agency Open Records Officer.
New recycling ordinance
Council approved a new municipal waste collection and recycling ordinance. The ordinance follows an updated intermunicipal agreement by the Northern Montgomery County Recycling Commission (NMCRC), which coordinates and promotes recycling activities among its 11 member communities.
The move enables the borough to receive state recycling grants. Council member Katherine Farina noted that grant funding is now based on tonnage, rather than residents, and encouraged council to promote recycling in the community.
Following some concerns by council members, the ordinance was amended to grant the NMCRC concurrent jurisdiction for recycling violations if authorized by the borough “in specific cases.” Borough solicitor Catherine Harper stressed that enforcement will be directed against haulers rather than individual residents.
Facebook page
The borough approved the creation of a new Telford Borough Facebook page. Pederson said that the new page will be coded as a business page, rather than a human profile, to enable the borough to expand its community following.
Council also previewed some upcoming borough events, including an Indian Valley Public Library mini golf event on February 8, the annual So You Think You Can Cook cooking competition on April 2, an Easter Egg Hunt on April 12 and an Earth Day spring cleaning event on April 20.
Council member John Taylor noted that Telford Happenings, Inc., an organization that oversees borough events, is currently recruiting cooks for the So You Think You Can Cook cooking competition, with a limit of 25 cooks.
The borough additionally reappointed Denise Wenhold to the Telford Industrial Development Authority Board for another five-year term.
The next Telford Borough Council meeting is on February 10 at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit telfordborough.org
