The West Rockhill Board of Supervisors Wednesday announced that construction of a new North Penn Water Authority water transmission line along Ridge Road will begin at the end of the month.
The announcement follows NPWA’s publication of a revised project schedule. According to the NPWA, mobilization will begin on January 23, followed by boring on February 3. Water maintenance installation will begin on Almont Road on February 17 and continue along Ridge Road in March. The NPWA is anticipating “substantial completion” of the project by July, with full completion expected in September.
The 2.7 mile, 12-inch transmission line will run along the east side of Ridge Road from County Line Road to Almont Road, connecting existing water lines in the Sellersville service area above Grand View Hospital to the NPWA’s main system in Chalfont to meet more stringent water regulations recently approved by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
During construction, Ridge Road will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m, with motorists redirected down County Line Road, across State Road and up Route 309. The road will remain open to local traffic.
Derstine’s cold storage warehouse proposal
Planning commission Chair Chris Derstine reported on Derstine’s Foodservice’s revised proposal for a 104,430-square-foot cold storage warehouse at 3115 Old State Road. The plan features an access driveway on Meetinghouse Road and curbing on Old State Road.
The revised proposal includes additional screening along the property line and the widening of Meetinghouse Road and the access driveway to ease truck traffic. The company is seeking a number of waivers, said Derstine, regarding sidewalk installation, forestation and shading. Derstine said that the commission recommended conditional preliminary and final approval.
While the project was not on the board’s agenda, board chairman Jay Keyser commended Derstine for negotiating the revised proposal, noting that the current width of the road is insufficient to accommodate the trucks’ turning radius. Derstine said that the company has been amenable to the commission’s suggestions.
Holiday House Pool update
The board accepted the resignation of Supervisor Hal Schirmer from the Joint Recreation Authority (JRA), a joint venture of Sellersville Borough and West Rockhill Township that oversees the Holiday House pool. Schirmer will remain as the township’s liaison to the JRA.
In his report on the JRA, Schirmer announced that the Holiday House pool has raised a record $12,000 in funding this year. However, the pool’s budget will “be tight,” said Schirmer, and remains dependent on additional community fundraising and municipal funding.
Schirmer stated that the JRA is requesting $17,000 from West Rockhill for capital improvements, on top of the township’s standard $13,000 contribution, with additional allocations expected in the coming years. He added that the JRA recently completed an appraisal of the Holiday House pool property to seek out alternative financing options.
The next West Rockhill Board of Supervisors meeting is on February 19 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit westrockhilltownship.org.
