The Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission has given Bucks County Community College the green light to proceed with plans for a new police academy, which would be the first in Bucks County.

This new training center is intended to offer more opportunities for local individuals to become police officers, according to The Reporter.

Approval has also been given to four other Pennsylvania colleges to submit full applications for new academies.

State Rep. Brian Munroe, a former police officer, supports the initiative, hoping it will boost local recruitment of new officers, per the report.

Existing police academies in the area include those in Delaware, Montgomery, and at Temple University.
