On Feb. 11, Warrington Township Police Department, with help from Magisterial District Judge Stacy Wertman, swore in their newest member of the force, Officer Michael Newnam, during the township Board of Supervisors meeting.
Newnam was born in Philadelphia and raised in Warrington. He graduated from Central Bucks High School South, where he was a two-year varsity letter winner in football and served as co-captain during his senior year.
After high school, Newnam attended Shippensburg University, but after two years, he followed his passion and enlisted in the United States Navy.
His first duty station was aboard the USS Essex in San Diego, where he went on his first deployment, visiting countries such as Malaysia, Qatar, and Bahrain.
In 2018, Newnam was assigned to NSA Lakehurst in New Jersey, and in 2021, he received his final orders to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in Norfolk, VA.
Following an honorable discharge, Newnam enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves, where he still serves today.
In April 2024, he began his law enforcement training at the Philadelphia Police Academy, graduating on December 20. He worked in the 15th District before joining the Warrington Township Police Department.
“Officer Newnam is thrilled to return home and start his career here, proudly serving the community of Warrington Township,” police said in a release.
