Troop 511 and Troop 51 are proud to recognize the first two members from Troop 511 to earn the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America).
Their projects not only demonstrate leadership and commitment to the community but also highlight the diverse skills and passions Scouts can explore in the program.
Emily Lessard, of Telford, a 2024 graduate of The Perk School and current freshman at Denison University, combined her love of science and environmental stewardship to create three squirrel boxes for the historic Morgan Log House in Lansdale.
These boxes provide essential shelter and alternative nesting spaces for squirrels, helping to protect the building from damage while promoting wildlife conservation.
Lessard is currently pursuing studies in Earth Sciences and Physics, further underscoring her dedication to understanding and preserving the natural world.
Ivy Olson of Hatfield, a senior at North Penn High School, showcased her passion for literacy and community engagement by refurbishing two Little Lending Libraries and constructing a brand-new one for Hatfield Township.
These libraries offer residents access to a variety of books and encourage the spirit of sharing through book donations. Olson’s project ensures that everyone in the community can enjoy the joy of reading.
This fall, Olson will attend Louisville University to study English Literature, continuing her commitment to learning and storytelling.
Both Olson and Lessard exemplify the values of Scouting America, demonstrating leadership, service, and initiative. Their remarkable achievements are a testament to the diverse opportunities and life-changing experiences that Scouting provides.
As we celebrate these inspiring young women, Troop 511 (girl’s troop founded in 2022) and Troop 51 (boy’s troop founded in 1920) invite families and youth in the area to consider joining our Troop. Scouting offers young people the chance to build lifelong friendships and experience unique adventures. From camping under the stars to mastering skills such as rock climbing, cooking over a wilderness fire, backwoods canoe trips, and week-long backpacking treks, our program helps Scouts gain confidence, resilience, and an appreciation for the great outdoors.
