Two people were killed and three others injured, including an 11-year-old girl, in a four-vehicle crash on Route 663/John Fries Highway in Milford Township, Bucks County, the evening of Jan. 31, Pennsylvania State Police at Dublin announced Feb. 3.
The victims were a female driver and male passenger, who were occupants of a 2020 Ford Escape, which became fully engulfed in flames after the collision.
Police said a 2003 Ford Explorer, driven by a 29-year-old female from Quakertown, was northbound on Route 663, with three other cars traveling the opposite direction. These three cars were the victims’ Escape, a Volkswagen Atlas, driven by a 37-year-old female from Quakertown with an 11-year-old girl as a passenger, and a 2021 Ford Transit, driven by a 30-year-old man from Somerset, NJ, with a 33-year-old female passenger from Reading, police said.
The driver of the Explorer entered the opposite lane and struck the victim’s Ford head-on, police said.
The impact caused the Escape to travel off the roadway into the woods adjacent to the southbound shoulder, police said.
The driver of the Volkswagen attempted to avoid the collision, but was hit by the driver of the Explorer, police said. Following its collision with the Explorer, the Volkswagen was hit on the driver’s side by the Ford Transit, whose driver also attempted to avoid the collision, police said.
The victims’ Ford became fully engulfed in flames and the two occupants were unable to be saved, police said, and were pronounced dead on scene.
The driver of the Ford Explorer suffered a suspected serious injury and was taken by Macungie Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital, police said.
The driver of the Volkswagen suffered a possible injury, as did the 11-year-old girl, and both were taken by St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport to St. Luke’s Quakertown for treatment, police said.
The driver and passenger in the Ford Transit were uninjured, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
