According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles "are expected to rest quarterback Jalen Hurts and most of their starters against the Washington Commanders" in their regular-season finale Sunday.

Nick Sirianni didn't confirm that's what the Eagles will do in his media session Wednesday, though it doesn't appear he offered a ton of pushback either:

If the Eagles do indeed rest Hurts and other starters, it won't be a decision that comes with universal acceptance from fans and media.

The Eagles are still in play for the No. 2 seed, which would mean they would get a second home playoff game if they advanced past the Wild Card Round. To get the second seed, the Eagles would not only need to beat the Commanders, but also have the Detroit Lions beat the Chicago Bears. That could happen, but evidently, the Eagles have decided giving their veterans rest — and not exposing them to more injury risk — is more important than possibly getting a second playoff game at Lincoln Financial Field.

It's also possible that the Eagles could still beat a 4-12 Commanders that will likely start third-string quarterback Josh Johnson. It will be interesting to see how much, if at all, backup quarterback Tanner McKee plays for the Eagles, or if this turns into a game where Sam Howell gets a bulk of the snaps. Even still, it's not unthinkable to believe that Howell could lead the Eagles to a win against his former team.
