New Britain Borough Council is mulling over a proposal for a mixed residential and retail development on the 400 block of East Butler Avenue in the new mixed use overlay district.
Law firm Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP and engineering firm Holmes Cunningham Engineering, according to the Bucks County Herald, recently presented a rendering to council on the nearly seven-acre parcel at 471 E. Butler Ave. near Shady Retreat Road.
The rendering shows 5,000 square feet of a commercial space on the ground floor and three stories totaling 100 residential units, with 148 parking garage spaces, 11 surface parking spots and four on-street parking spaces, per the report.
Bucks County Herald said it could end up being the tallest building in the borough. Officials are investigating proper height restrictions and other aesthetics.
Residents expressed concerns over garbage pickup, light pollution – and the demolition of a historic home on the site, which, per the report, the borough’s Historic Preservation Committee expressed its opposition.
Some residents echoed that Doylestown Borough should retain its bucolic charm and identity.
The project is in the early stages and no formal plans have been submitted to New Britain Borough.
