New Britain Township is seeking a full-time finance director to lead the township’s financial planning and management, township officials announced this week.

The finance director will oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and long-term strategic planning. According to the township, the position plays a key role in ensuring the municipality’s financial health and sustainability by providing data-driven recommendations to Township Manager Dan Fox and overseeing day-to-day financial operations.

“This position serves as the township’s chief financial advisor,” the township said in its job posting, noting that the finance director will work closely with department heads, supervise finance department staff, and prepare financial reports and analyses as requested by the township manager.

The position is a full-time, exempt, on-site role that reports directly to the township manager. The annual salary range is $95,000 to $125,000, depending on qualifications and experience, and includes a “generous benefits package.”

Key responsibilities

According to the job description, the finance director will manage the township’s general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, cash flow, and risk management. The role also includes coordinating preparation of the annual budget, analyzing revenue and expenditure trends, and assisting departments with budget development.

The finance director will advise township leadership on investments, borrowing, and long-term capital planning, including cash management strategies and bond issues. The position also leads the annual audit process and ensures required reports are filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and the Board of Supervisors.

Additional responsibilities include managing financial software systems, overseeing the intersection of financial and utility billing systems, maintaining accurate fixed asset inventories, and supporting contract financial review and tracking. The finance director also participates as a member of senior management in township-wide planning and policy discussions.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field, and have at least five years of experience in municipal or government finance or a similar leadership role. A Government Finance Officers Association certified financial officer credential is preferred but not required.

The township is seeking candidates with strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, financial reporting standards, and municipal finance regulations, including cash-basis accounting. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software, along with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, are also required.

How to apply

Interested candidates are asked to submit a cover letter and resume to Township Manager Dan Fox at [email protected]

Township officials said the ideal candidate will bring an efficient, streamlined approach to financial management and have the ability to train and mentor staff while supporting long-term fiscal stability.
