A man with no fixed address who frequents the Philadelphia region is accused of assaulting a deputy sheriff during a disturbance at the Bucks County Justice Center earlier this month.

Waheed Berry, who turned 30 on the same day of the alleged assault, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor defiant trespassing, misdemeanor disorderly conduct-fighting, and public drunkenness by Bucks County detectives, according to the affidavit.

Detectives alleged Berry caused a disturbance in a fifth-floor courtroom during legal proceedings at 11:05 a.m. Dec. 2, 2025, at the 100 N. Main St. center, and was asked to leave the building. Authorities wrote in the complaint that Berry, due to observations by sheriffs’ deputies and his interactions with others in court, was believed to be under the influence of a controlled substance or alcohol. He was escorted out by three deputies and told not to return to the building, detectives said.

Then, 20 minutes later,  Berry allegedly returned to the criminal justice center lobby and was approached by a deputy, who told him that he was barred from entering.

At that time, Berry allegedly told the deputy to hold on and started to make a phone call. The deputy attempted to escort Berry out of the building, assisted by another officer. Berry went into the vestibule where he continued to use his phone and not leave, authorities said.

Berry was told  he would be arrested if he did not leave, to which he replied, “Then f-cking arrest me,” detectives said.

He then allegedly swung his hand holding the phone at the deputy and hit the victim three times in the face.

The victim and the other officer took Berry to the ground, where he was threatened with a taser if he did not comply and stop resisting, detectives said. Berry complied and was cuffed. Berry was then taken to the basement holding cell, where he allegedly continued to be uncooperative and kicked the glass on the cell door while lying on the floor.

The victim was treated by emergency medical services, suffering redness and swelling to the left temple area and the right cheek, as well as a half-inch cut on the right cheek, a cut under the right nostril, and a cut on the left hand, detectives said. The victim was taken to Doylestown Hospital for evaluation. Their condition is unknown.

Berry is jailed in Bucks County on 10% of $250,000 cash bail ahead of a Jan. 5 preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Mark Douple.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
