Democrats expanded their majority on the Pennridge School Board Monday, December 1 with the seating of four new members.

The reorganization meeting saw the swearing in of Democrats Nathaniel Leffever, Carly Taylor and Thomas Trauger and Republican Brian McMullen, yielding an 8-1 Democratic majority.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the board elected Carolyn Sciarrino and Leah Foster Rash as its new president and vice-president, respectively, for one-year terms.

Sciarrino, who was first elected in 2023 and served as vice president from 2024-2025, cited the board’s top priority as strengthening the district’s financial position.

“We recognize that some decisions may be difficult, but we will continue to communicate openly, explain the reasoning behind our choices and listen carefully to your feedback, comments and concerns,” said Sciarrino, adding, “While financial stability is essential, our students’ education and well-being will always remain the driving force behind every decision we make.”

Sciarrino listed other priorities as raising standardized test scores, improving reading efficiency, expanding the district’s career pathway programs, supporting the Upper Bucks County Technical School and enhancing efforts to recruit cyber students.

“We have a tremendous amount of intelligence, creativity, work ethic and professionalism on this board,” said Sciarrino. “Because of that, I believe we are positioned to accomplish meaningful progress in the year ahead.”

The board also elected Leffever as its liaison to the Upper Bucks County Technical School. Leffever is a graduate of the tech school’s welding program.
