An Upper Salford man was recently acquitted of attempted rape of an underage girl after a 9-hour deliberation by a Montgomery County jury but was convicted on charges of aggravated indecent assault of a child and corruption of minors of a sexual nature.

Lyndell A. Johnson, 63, of the 1100 block of Sumneytown Pike, sexually abused the victim when she was between the ages of 11 and 16 on multiple occasions between 2018 and 2023 in Montgomery County and Philadelphia, according to The Mercury. Johson will be sentenced at a later date.

The three-day trial was overseen by Judge Thomas M. DelRicci, who also increased Johnson’s bail to $50,000 cash, per the report.

Prior to sentencing, Johnson will undergo a psychosexual evaluation and the state Sexual Offenders Assessment Board will determine if Johnson needs to register as a sex offender or sexually violent predator.

He faces up to 46 years in prison on the charges.

The 18-year-old victim testified at the trial on the past abuse.

An investigation into the abuse by Pennsylvania State Police in Skippack began in February 2024 when the victim confided in her boyfriend of the assaults she suffered as a child, per the report. Police received a Childline referral regarding allegations of sexual abuse of a female child, according to the article.
