Police warn of North Wales Water Authority scam occurring via text and phone

New Britain Township Police are warning residents of a scam involving North Wales Water Authority.

Police said individuals posing as “the water company” have been contacting residents by phone and text message, requesting access to their homes to investigate leaks or high usage.

Avoid Scammers at Your Home

• For work that requires NWWA to enter your home or business, NWWA employees will rarely come to your door without an appointment.
• NWWA employees carry an ID badge and are in uniform bearing our logo.
• NWWA employees travel in white trucks that bear the NWWA logo.
• Employees will never ask for cash. All NWWA payments must be processed through the office or on the online payment portal.
• If someone comes to your door claiming to be an NWWA employee, and you are not expecting them, ask for identification, police said.

Police said to call 911 immediately If they threaten you in any way.

NWWA said the company will never request Social Security numbers from customers nor share customers' telephone numbers and email addresses.

NWWA does not store any customer credit card information in its system.

According to NWWA, there are a number of third-party bill payment websites that will accept your water payment for a fee and relay that payment to NWWA, but these services are not in any way affiliated with the water authority.

The only way to know that you are on the NWWA authorized bill payment site is to access it from the Authority website, the NWWA said. There are no fees for paying your bill through the NWWA official bill payment site.
