The Telford Borough Council Monday, August 11 approved the advertisement of an ordinance to regulate the display of house numbers.

The ordinance requires all house and building numbers to be clearly visible from the public roadway. It comes as emergency personnel have struggled to locate certain addresses in the borough, said council.

Under the ordinance, all numbers must be at least four inches in height and composed of paint or enamel, metal, durable plastics of other material capable of withstanding exterior conditions. In addition, the color of the number must contrast its immediate background.

The ordinance will be advertised for 60 days before being adopted by council. Home and building owners will be given a year-long grace period following the ordinance’s passage.

Rotary Park

Leon Moyer of the Souderton-Telford Rotary Club announced that the Souderton Community Park improvement project’s unveiling ceremony will be held on September 13. A six-year renovation and beautification initiative, the project includes band shell and pavilion renovations, new playgrounds and fitness equipment, a multi-purpose building, expanded parking, improved lighting and new art walkways and sculpture gardens.

The rotary club spearheaded the project’s fundraising efforts, committing $250,000 and securing an additional $1 million through activities, individual contributions and sponsorships.

As a result, the park will be renamed the Rotary Park, said Moyer. The unveiling ceremony will include an invitation-only event for sponsors from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by a free event featuring ice cream, a concert and a drone light show.

Sidewalk project

Borough secretary Bryan Poster reported on a plan to implement sidewalks on Township Line Road and Reliance Road to enable residents to walk into town. He noted that Hilltown Township, which covers a small portion of the planned construction area, is primarily receptive to the plan. However, he suggested building a walking trail to bypass the turn onto Reliance Road and keep the project within the borough.

Telford Borough Authority (TBA) chairman John Harrell informed council that the proposed Sheetz facility on the corner of Lawn Avenue and Ridge Road has been cancelled. In lieu of the facility, Select Properties is proposing a townhome development. Harrell also announced the beginning of the new Wawa’s construction on the corner of State Road and Meetinghouse Road as well as PFAS treatment of TBA wells following the approval of a $9.8 million PennVEST grant.

Main Street Streetscape project

Council approved a $60,000 Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) grant for a Main Street Streetscape project. The project is aimed at revitalizing the borough’s downtown commercial corridor from Reliance Road to West Broad Street, with improved safety, accessibility, visual appeal and functionality.

The grant will fund the project’s planning phase, with the borough responsible for a $10,000 match.

Council approved a request for proposal for a new borough solicitor. Submissions are due by September 12 at 12 p.m. The initial contract will run from October 13 to the January 2026 reorganization meeting, at which point the borough will reappoint a solicitor for a one-year term.

Council also mentioned some upcoming borough events, including the Telford Police Department’s “Touch a Truck” event on August 16 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m., the Indian Valley Public Library’s “Dinner in White” event on September 6 from 4:30 to 9 p.m. and the Telford Night Market’s Movie Night on August 20 and Welcome Fall Night on August 27.

The next Telford Borough Council meeting is on September 8 at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit telfordborough.org
