A man who was shot by police Saturday night during an angry confrontation with neighbors in a Bucks County neighborhood has survived his injuries and is expected to be charged by the Bucks County District Attorney upon release from the hospital.
Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn released a statement Sunday night in the wake of a confrontation between a man allegedly armed with a chain and a Buckingham police officer Saturday night on the 4800 block of Redfield Road.
According to the DA, who took over the investigation from police, the violent incident occurred after the reckless driver crashed a white van into a parked pickup truck. He then pursued neighbors with a weapon, all while shouting politically- and religiously-charged statements, authorities allege.
When police arrived, the man went after an officer, the DA said. The officer fired a Taser, but it had no effect on the man, police said. He continued toward the officer, and he fired his weapon.
The officer rendered aid, and the man was taken to Doylestown Hospital, where he remained Sunday, Schorn said.
Appropriate charges are expected to be filed soon, per the DA.
An investigation uncovered the man was driving recklessly in the 4800 block of Redfield Road around 4 p.m. Saturday and crashed into a parked pickup with a hitched cargo trailer.
When residents came outside, he allegedly went after them, chasing them into their house while shouting at them. The residents locked themselves in their home, police said.
Police recovered two weapons on the suspect.
His name was not released by the District Attorney.
In accordance with protocol, all police-involved shootings in Bucks County are investigated by county detectives and reviewed by the District Attorney.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
