The Telford Borough Council Monday, April 14 approved an ordinance to formalize multiple parking bans in the borough.

The ordinance establishes parking prohibitions on the north Side of Penn Avenue between North Third Street and Main Street and on the south side of Penn Avenue between Main Street and Station Alley. Both sections have long been de facto no parking zones, said council member Robert Sparks at council’s March meeting.

“We’re cleaning it up to match what’s already there,” said Sparks. “The north and south sides between Station Alley and Main Street were already no parking zones. It’s just extending the north side out to Third Street the way it’s been for years.”

SEPTA station lease

Council approved a 20-year lease of the SEPTA-owned Telford Train Station. The lease includes two years of reduced rent in exchange for improvements to the existing building and allows the borough to sublease the building. Approved subleases are Shekala’s, a women’s clothing boutique, and Salon Sarai, a full-service salon.

The station has been inoperable since 1981 when the Bethlehem Regional Rail line closed.

Grant Inspired Ministries’ improvement project

Council approved Telford Industrial Development Authority’s (TIDA) financing of a Grant Inspired Ministries improvement project. The faith-based charity runs three local retirement communities: the Community at Rockhill, the Lutheran Community at Telford and Sellersville Senior Residences.

The project includes a new 36-unit apartment building at the Community at Rockhill near the Old State Road entrance, with a second 36-unit building planned for the future. An additional improvement is an expanded dining venue and kitchen in the Harbinger Terrace apartment building at the Lutheran Community at Telford. TIDA will finance the project through bond allocations, not to exceed $23 million.
