A Plumstead Township juvenile has been charged in the March 17 burglary of Jersey Mike’s on Swamp Road.
The 17-year-old boy was charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespassing, as well as misdemeanor theft and receiving stolen property, police said.
Plumstead Township Police said Jersey Mike’s at the Cross Keys Place shopping center was burglarized one minute to midnight March 17. Police responded to a report of a smashed window at the eatery at 4349 Swamp Road at 11:59 p.m. and found signs of forced entry into the store, police said.
A thorough search of the building was carried out, and no one was found inside, police said.
During the initial response, a suspect was seen in the area, described by authorities as a lighter-tone male wearing tan overalls and a jacket, according to the report.
A perimeter was established, and a search of the surrounding area was conducted, but no suspect was found, police said.
While reviewing interior and exterior video surveillance, an individual could be seen walking toward the rear of the business from the area of the 611 Bypass, police said. The suspect walks to the front of the store, breaks the glass to the front door, enters Jersey Mike’s, traverses the counter, and goes directly to a cash box, police said.
The suspect then left through the rear door, with the cash box in hand, police said.
A thorough investigation found the suspect was a former employee and he was taken into custody on March 20 without incident, police said. Authorities announced the arrest April 10.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
