In what has been exclaimed by many as, “one of the best school days of the year” for the last five years, students and staff at Pennridge High School in Bucks County once again brought their own “April Showers” to the morning forecast.
The “April Showers” event is the main fundraiser for the Unified Pennridge Club. Unified Pennridge is a club at Pennridge High School that provides inclusive opportunities for those with and without disabilities to participate together in club activities and sports. They hold fun events throughout the school year that help foster connections and build a more inclusive community here at Pennridge. Our Unified Bocce team and Unified Track and Field Team also help give everyone, at Pennridge, the opportunity to be on a team- and now you can too.
For the last five years, the entire Pennridge High School community, the Autistic Support and Life Skills classrooms from all Pennridge School District buildings have been invited to get “showered” and have fun with the help of local Fire Companies and School District staff at this event.
Students who follow the registration process and raise $10 are eligible to participate in the event and celebrate this unique opportunity which includes a festival-like atmosphere, and a concert from Pennridge High School Rock bands, a DJ, and more entertainment.
Superintendent Dr. Angelo Berrios said, “April Showers is such a meaningful event that exemplifies the spirit of inclusion, kindness, and community—values we all deeply cherish. This event has a lasting impact on our for students, staff, and the broader Pennridge community.”
Pennridge School Board member Chris Kaufman ran through the “showers” and reflected on his experiences this year.
He said, “I couldn't be prouder of our student body, staff, and administration. During events like these, which are an hour out of traditional education time, our students are exposed to and learn so much from their educational community. Having the opportunity to experience the joy from the students in our special needs community is a lesson worth learning and leaves an indelible mark of compassion and belonging to all of those involved. We're a greater community when we're together and every student deserves the opportunity to feel included and appreciated. Events like today showcase the ability of our district to achieve more together when presented with a common goal.”
The United Pennridge Organization have raised a little more than $5000 so far, which organizers say is less than other years. If you would like to help their cause, you can also donate by clicking here. https://give.specialolympicspa.org/team/635340
The Pennridge School District continues to advocate for our most affected students and families and it’s easy to see the how many in the district have that same passion.
