Update: As of 4:40 p.m., the suspect is in custody and there is no longer a threat to the public, Central Bucks Regional Police said. The SRT team was called in to assist and the situation is under control, police said.
Original story below:
An armed, barricaded subject on Broadale Road in Doylestown Borough has area residents and Facebook users on edge Sunday afternoon, as heavily-armed specialized police forces have blocked roads and staged near the Weis Market in Doylestown Township.
NOTE: Video does not have sound.
There is police activity in the vicinity of the unit block of Broadale Road, behind the Acme supermarket and Doylestown Shopping Center, and near Regency Woods Townhomes.
SWAT units, both heavily armed and in camouflage army fatigues, have been seen staging behind the Weis Market, in close proximity to the home in question. Police have not released any information at this time, but roads in the vicinity are closed to traffic at this time.
A Shelter-in-Place alert was sent to residents in the vicinity, according to county dispatch. However, the set radius or parameters of that threat were not released to Central Bucks Now. Police said that, when that alert is lifted, those in the vicinity will be alerted.
According to a Borough of Doylestown Facebook post, "Police are dealing with an armed barricaded subject."
"If you live in the immediate area, please shelter in place," read the post added around 4 p.m. Sunday. "SWAT team and negotiators are en route to assist."
The official post on the borough's page also noted that they will "repost when the situation has been resolved."
Calls to multiple area police departments have not yet been returned.
More information will be posted as it is made available. Residents and drivers are asked to avoid the vicinity until more information is released and the area is marked safe.
