A Sellersville man has been charged in the robbery of $32,000 in cash from the Wells Fargo Bank in Doylestown Borough Thursday morning.
Khalil William Butler, 30, faces felony charges of bank robbery, receiving stolen property, theft, and robbery by threats, and misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats and possession of a weapon, police said.
Around 9 a.m. Thursday, Butler, police allege, entered the bank and told the teller that he wanted to make a cash withdrawal. He then told the employee to place his hands on the desk and lifted his shirt to display a gun, police said.
Butler told the clerk and bank manager to get cash from the safe, police said. Butler took the money, placed it in a brown bag, and fled on a bicycle wearing a distinctive jacket, police said.
At 9:22 a.m., police found Butler on Avenue A in Doylestown Borough and the $32,000 was in his possession, police said.
Police recovered Butler's jacket and gun that he threw away in a recycling bin in the Westwyk Condominium neighborhood in Doylestown Township, police said.
Central Bucks Regional Police Department were assisted by Doylestown Township Police, Buckingham Township Police, New Britain Township Police, and Bucks County Sheriff's Department.
Butler is at Bucks County jail on 10% of $1 million cash, per court documents. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m. before Bucks County Magisterial District Judge Mark D. Douple.
