The pedestrian who was struck and killed by a car Sunday morning in Hatfield Township on North Broad Street was identified by the Montgomery County Coroner as Joseph Mastromatto, 35, of HIlltown Township.

Mastromatto, per reports, died of blunt impact injuries.

As previously reported by North Penn Now, a section of North Broad Street was closed for several hours Sunday morning as emergency responders investigated a body found in the street.

At 6:19 a.m., Hatfield Police Department reported that its officers were called to respond in the area of 1330 N. Broad St. for a report of a man in the roadway.

According to reports, police arrived to the area to find a white man face down in the roadway. An investigation revealed, police said, that a 2013 Mercedes Benz SUV was traveling westbound on Broad when it struck Mastromatto, who entered the roadway from the eastbound side. The driver of the Mercedes immediately stopped and remained at the scene to speak to authorities, reports said.

The Volunteer Medical Services Co. responders tended to the victim at the scene, but it was determined he was dead as a result of the strike. The fatality to the pedestrian was confirmed at 6:48 a.m., according to police.

The Hatfield Police Traffic Safety Unit is conducting the investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Colmar Fire Company, Colmar Fire Police, VMSC, and Fairmount Fire Police.

The area of North Broad Street from Lynwood Drive to Medical Campus Drive was closed from 8:01 until 11:36 a.m. Police said that the time was necessary as it was a “fatal crash [that] required detail investigation.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Hatfield Police Officer Mark O’Donnell or Sgt. Michael Sloan at 215-855-0903.
