At least four fire companies are trying to knock down and contain at least a one-acre cornfield fire in Bedminster Township Saturday afternoon, as the blaze threatens residential homes in its path.

Dublin, Doylestown, Perkasie and Plumsteadville fire departments responded shortly before 4:30 p.m. to the fire at Smith School and Scott roads.

The fire was burning in the direction of homes on Darrah, East Armstrong and Shoemaker drives, per reports from the scene, but by 5 p.m., firefighters had contained most of the fire and were knocking down hot spots.

Crews were in the process of bringing in equipment to cut down trees to prevent the spread of the fire.
