The long-awaited Franklin Alley Swale improvement project is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

The announcement was made by Telford borough manager Kyle Detweiler at borough council’s July meeting. The project, funded by a $146,000 state grant, will improve the existing swale that runs from Franconia Avenue Park to Station Alley.

The borough is currently awaiting a tentative start date from the contractor, KBC Construction LLC., said Detweiler, noting that the contractor’s current project is behind schedule due to a delay in material shipments. Affected residents will receive letters with the construction schedule, timeline and contact information for on-site inspectors once a start date is scheduled, said Detweiler.

Public warning siren

Council announced that the new fire department public warning siren pole will be installed this week. The siren, which will be located in the Telford Train Station adjacent to Penn Street, will broadcast emergency alerts throughout the borough. Council member Robert Sparks said that the entire project is expected to be complete in one to two weeks.

Council also recertified its 50-year agreement with the Pennridge Wastewater Treatment Authority (PWTA). Founded in 1973 as a partnership between six local municipalities — Perkasie, Sellersville, Silverdale, Telford, East Rockhill and Hilltown — the PWTA’s agreement expired last year, leaving the authority without state certification and the ability to obtain loans for projects.

Council additionally previewed some upcoming borough events, including the Indian Valley Beer Fest on July 27 from 2 to 7 p.m. and Dinner in White on August 17 from 4:30 to 9 p.m. The Telford Night Market will host a Safari night on July 10, Ice Cream with an Officer on July 17 and Christmas in July on July 24.

The next Telford borough council meeting is on August 12 at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit telfordborough.org.
