There was an odor of burnt marijuana in the defendant's car, but allegedly denied having any or smoking any of the drug.
A New Jersey man is accused of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance as police found a large amount of marijuana in his trunk following a traffic stop after he hit a concrete median.
Terrence Lamont Goodman, 48, of the 600 block of Pennington Avenue, Trenton, is also charged with four misdemeanor counts of DUI of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of eight grams of hashish, and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
On Nov. 27, at 10:11 p.m., Warrington Township Police were participating in a multi-jurisdictional Bucks County DUI Task Force roving patrol from Lower State Road in Warrington Township to State Road in Bensalem Township.
As police were westbound on Street Road approaching Racetrack Drive in Bensalem Township, a blue 2015 Hyundai Sonata turned left from the eastbound turning lane of Street Road onto northbound Racetrack Drive, police said.
The Hyundai then hit a concrete median that separated the right turn lane on Racetrack Drive from westbound Street Road and northbound Racetrack Drive, police said.
The driver, alleged to be Goodman, then went into the right turn lane onto northbound Racetrack Drive from westbound Street Road, to continue north on Racetrack Drive, police said.
Police stopped the car in the right turn lane of Racetrack Drive, and asked Goodman why he was being stopped, per the complaint. Goodman said it was because he hit the median and admitted to not seeing it, police said.
Goodman told police he was headed to Parx Casino from Trenton, according to the complaint. Police said he had red, glassy eyes with dilated pupils and there was an odor of fresh marijuana in the car.
Several burnt cigarettes were in the center console ashtray, police said, and a clear bag of small green leafy buds were seen inside Goodman’s center console armrest compartment.
Police asked Goodman if he smoked marijuana that night, which he denied, police said. He also denied having marijuana in the car, police said.
When police said they saw suspected marijuana in the center console, Goodman allegedly turned and looked directly at the baggie. Police said Goodman failed a convergence eye test at the scene.
Goodman failed field sobriety tests, police said. When asked again if he smoked marijuana or took other medications, Goodman told police he did not smoke marijuana and is not a marijuana user, police allege in the complaint.
After being taken into custody, Goodman told police he lived at the Bucks Crossing Apartments in Bensalem Township, but his license showed an address of the 900 block of South Broad Street in Trenton, per the complaint.
During a search of Goodman, authorities allegedly found $1,320 in cash and seized his phone, wallet and keys, according to the complaint.
During a search of the car, police found Goodman had allegedly dumped the baggie from the console onto the floor in an attempt to get rid of evidence.
A search warrant was issued on Dec. 2 for Goodman’s car, which was towed to Warrington Township Police as evidence, police said.
Police found the following:
Goodman is free on $5,000 unsecured bail and has a preliminary hearing Dec. 23 at 9 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Stacy Wertman, per court records.
He is represented by attorney Thomas Logan, of Doylestown.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
