BuxMont Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is holding a free Kwanzaa celebration on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at its Warrington location near the intersection of Route 611 and Street Road.
“This is the dawn of soul and explosive celebration. Three passionate keepers of the culture facilitate the audience through drum, song, stories, and dance to ignite people to feel black culture in a way that reshapes community. It is an unforgettable experience that will anchor you into a paradigm of rooted connections and spiritual inspiration that invokes everyone to want to live life fuller,” states the Fellowship website.
The Fellowship is led by Brotha Mike aka Michael A. Blount, if Philadelphia. According to its event description, Blount was raised by two very community active pastors, fostering a church base that specialized in serving people battling addiction, and coping through mental illness.
“In church, Michael was referred to as Brotha Mike, and was quickly appointed to lead the children of the congregation, while being its lead drummer. It was here Brotha Mike discovered the relationship between rhythm, and bringing people together,” states the website.
“Through the Church, Afrocentric celebrations were hosted to unite and uplift people. A predominant one being Kwanzaa, passionately led by his godmother who passed in April of 2023. Brotha Mike has been handed the torch as one of the ‘keepers of the culture’ and now is aligned with the conviction of joyfully sharing the black African diaspora into the community.”
