A man has been charged with felony counts of access device fraud, theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception for allegedly using a fake American Express account to buy nearly $4,000 worth of fencing materials from a Bucks County business.
Authorities said County Line Fence, 2051 W. County Line Road, Warrington Township is out $3,853 of materials that was sold in October to Luis Alfredo Medina-Badio, 31.
On Nov. 20, investigators responded to the fence business regarding a reported theft of materials that took place on Oct. 18, police said. Authorities allege Medina-Badio – using the alias “Javier Meran” –placed an order for fencing material, paid via an online payment link from Godaddy.com.
Police said “Meran” made the payment in full via the link using a fraudulent American Express account in his name. Then, Medina-Badio allegedly arrived at the business later that day and picked up the materials in a U-Haul truck.
On Oct. 20, County Line Fence was issued a charge back notification from GoDaddy, stating that the charges were fraudulent, according to the complaint.
Police responded to the Warrington U-Haul, where a rental agreement from Oct. 18 showed the renter as a different individual, per the affidavit. This individual told police he rented the truck for Medina-Badio because he does not have a valid driver’s license, police said.
The witness told police that “Meran” was Medina-Badio, police said.
A criminal history for Medina-Badio showed he was arrested by Mahoning Township Police; an officer confirmed Meran was Medina-Badio, police said, and matched shorts worn by the defendant to Carbon County Correctional Facility to photographs from the crime.
At present, Medina-Badio is at Bucks County jail in lieu of 10% of $100,000 cash bail, set at a Nov. 21 arraignment, according to court records. A preliminary hearing was held Monday morning before Magisterial District Judge Stacy Wertman.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
