Investigators said speed was likely the factor in the three-car crash in Hatboro Borough Aug. 23 that killed three people.
Investigators said speed was likely the factor in the three-car crash on County Line Road in Hatboro Borough last Friday that killed the driver of the vehicle at fault, his girlfriend, and a math teacher.
An injured victim of the crash, Adriana Sabo, 23, of Southampton, remains in critical condition with severe injuries at an area hospital, police said.
Hatboro Police said Thursday that, while the investigation is still ongoing, and based on information compiled thus far, the Chevy Camaro involved in the wreck, driven by Joseph Snavely, 31, of Southampton, with Sabo and girlfriend Gabrielle Sims, 31, as passengers, was speeding in excess of the 45 mph limit on County Line Road, when it hit a railroad crossing, went airborne and crashed into a Nissan SUV, killing Hatboro grandmother and Cheltenham Presentation BVM honors math teacher Anne Swoyer, 69.
While west on County Line Road, police said Snavely crossed the railroad grade between Jacksonville Road and Park Avenue, which sent the Camaro airborne. He lost control, crossed into the eastbound lanes of County Line Road and hit Swoyer’s Nissan, police said.
A Hyundai SUV that was behind the Nissan was also involved in the crash, but the name of its injured 69-year-old driver is being withheld at this time, police said.
Snavely and Swoyer were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency and rescue personnel extricated Sims and Sabo from the Camaro, which flipped onto its roof, police said.
Sims, of Southampton, succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police were able to obtain eyewitness statements, recover video evidence, and recover onboard vehicle data from the Camaro as part of its investigation into how the crash occurred last Friday night.
On Wednesday, the Montgomery County Coroner released the names and manners of death of the deceased.
