Doylestown Township Supervisors last week gave conditional preliminary approval for a senior housing and townhome development plan on North Broad Street.
Doylestown Senior Housing and Townhouses, developed by applicants Arcadia at Doylestown 3 LLC, is proposed for 280 N. Broad St., complete with 60 apartments for senior citizens – 47 of which will be “affordable,” according to engineering plans – and 18 “market-rate” townhouse units.
Four of the five acres in the proposal are located in the township, with the other acre located in Doylestown Borough, according to Kelly McGowan, a representative of the applicant, who appeared at the Aug. 20 meeting.
Each of the apartments would have one bedroom, McGowan said.
“The parking for this development – we’re overparked,” she said. “It’s ample parking for this type of development.”
The township requires 81 spaces for the development, but 92 are being provided, she said. Each townhome would have two understory garage spaces.
Furthermore, each townhome would have the option of electric charging stations in each garage.
“Electric Vehicle charging stations have yet to be determined in the parking area, but there could be between two to four stations,” McGowan said. “It’s not a use that generates high-automobile use, but we do acknowledge the need for that.”
Supervisor Dan Wood recommended 220-amp lines in each garage, which could allow homeowners to install their own chargers.
“You don’t need a unit, you just need a 220 line,” he said.
