Tiana Danas, a William Tennant High School graduate, heads to Delaware Valley University in the fall.
A soon-to-be Delaware Valley University freshman and a cadet with Plumstead Township Police Explorers Post 5708 was awarded last week with a $2,000 Officer Joseph E. Hanusey III Scholarship.
Tiana Danas, a William Tennant High School graduate, was awarded the honor at the Aug. 14 Plumstead Township Board of Supervisors meeting, flanked by Pennsylvania Game Warden Officer Hannah Jimenez and Plumstead Township Police Sgt. Tom Rutecki.
“Post 5708 is extremely proud of Tiana, and she truly does represent the values of our program: Respect, integrity, honor, discipline, loyalty and courage,” Rutecki said.
Danas will head to college in the fall to major in conservation and wildlife management. She also graduated from the Bucks County Institute of Technology Public Safety Program.
“She was inspired to pursue a career as a Pennsylvania Game Warden after a chance encounter with PA Game Warden Jimenez at the age of 13 during a fishing tournament,” Rutecki said. “Tiana saw how women can project a calm and confident demeanor in a leadership position while serving the community.”
Danas was a varsity field hockey and lacrosse player and participated in the Skills USA District 2 competition for Crime Scene Investigations, Rutecki said.
She volunteers with the Doylestown Athletic Association, the Bucks County Fraternal Order of Police, Hatboro Pack 17 Cub Scouts, Lehman Church Food Pantry and St. John’s Food Pantry.
Furthermore, Danas is on track to be a certified Firefighter 1 by the end of the year.
“Tiana is an exceptional young woman with a desire and passion to serve others,” Rutecki said. “She has an impressive background.”
