Doylestown Township Police have added two more officers to its department, as of Tuesday night in a unanimous vote by supervisors.
Desiree Freitag and Steven Johnson were sworn in Tuesday by Supervisors Chair Jennifer Herring as the two newest officers to the force.
Lt. Charles Zeigler – soon to be Chief Zeigler, come Oct. 5 – said the supervisors approved the expansion of the police department to two additional police officers in last quarter of 2023.
“After a lengthy recruitment and background process, Desiree Freitag and Steven Johnson successfully completed all phases of the hiring process,” Zeigler said.
Freitag, 40, resides in Northampton Township, Bucks County and was formerly a Philadelphia Police Officer. She graduated from St. Hubert’s Catholic High School for Girls in Philadelphia in 2002, and received a bachelor’s in criminal justice and chemistry from the University of New Haven in 2007, Zeigler said.
Freitag went on to graduate from the Philadelphia Police Academy in October 2013 and had been in good standing as an officer for Philadelphia Police.
Johnson, 25, resides in Warminster Township and is a native of Oklahoma. Zeigler said Johnson graduated from Waurika High School in Waurika, Okla., and from the Temple University Police Academy in October 2022. He is a certified EMT and was employed as an officer with New Hope Borough Police.
