A Southampton man pulled over for suspected DUI in Warrington Township last month, and who has three prior convictions for DUI, has been charged by police via summons with 10 DUI felonies, according to court documents.
Guy Edward Barone, 53, of the 200 block of Steamboat Station, was charged July 23 on the felonies, which also includes two summary offenses of disregarding a traffic lane and improper signaling and turning, per court documents.
On Saturday, July 20, at 12:57 a.m., police in the area of 994 Easton Road, Warrington, observed a black Mercedes E350 sedan traveling south on Easton Road, driving over the double yellow lines, according to an affidavit.
Police said the car drove on the white left turn lane divider line between Lower Barness Road and Shetland Drive, and as it approached Village Square, it drove over the white left turn lane divider before manuvering back into the left lane.
As it came to Street Road, the car went into the left turn lane without signaling, police said. When the light turned green, the car did not move for five seconds, and then turned eastbound onto Street Road, police said.
Once on Street Road, the car, allegedly driven by Barone, reached more than 60 mph, police said. As it approached Valley Square Boulevard, the car drove over the yellow center line and then stopped, police said. The car continued toward Costner Drive, and then it was pulled over.
Police made contact with Barone, whose eyes were bloodshot and glassy, according to the complaint. There was a strong odor of burnt marijuana and alcohol coming from inside the car, police allege.
Barone denied drinking any alcohol or smoking marijuana, but then admitted to doing both, police said.
Police said Barone was unable to complete two field sobriety tests, and was taken into custody. Barone agreed to a blood draw for BAC, police said.
Authorities said Barone had been convicted of DUI on three separate occasions.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 30 at 11:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Stacy Wertman.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
