A Southampton man is accused of opening a credit card in someone else’s name and then charging more than $9,000 to it.
Brett Gordon, 36, of the 3400 block of Stafford Place, was charged by Buckingham Township Police with felony counts of identify theft and use of a credit card without the owner’s authority for incidents that allegedly occurred between May 11 and June 10, 2024.
Gordon is free on $50,000 unsecured bail, set at arraignment July 8 by Magisterial District Judge Maggie Snow.
Police said the victim went to police headquarters to file a fraud complaint, as she had been receiving multiple inquiries for credit card activations on her credit report over the past few months.
All attempts were denied by LifeLock until May 11, when a JP Morgan Chase credit card was fraudulently opened in her name, police said.
From May 11 to June 10, police allege Gordon put $9,031.75 on the credit card. Police linked Gordon to the banking records of the card via his cell phone number, email, and PayPal account, police said.
On May 27, 2024, at 6:33 p.m., surveillance footage at a Wawa at 870 Second Street Pike in Northampton Township, Bucks County, allegedly showed Gordon arriving in a white Ford Focus, exiting the car and pumping gas via phone payment. This transaction, police said, was reflected on banking records.
The victim told police she did not give Gordon permission to activate a card in her name, police said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. before Snow.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
